Reward training is often seen as the most modern method of training a dog, but reward training is probably much older than other methods of dog training. It is possible that reward training for dogs has been around as long as there have been dogs to train. Early humans probably used some informal kind of reward training when taming the wolf pups that eventually evolved into modern dogs.
Many principles of modern reward training date back many decades. However, what is called reward training today has only enjoyed is remarkable popularity for the past 10 or 15 years.
Many reward training enthusiasts are less enthusiastic about other methods of dog training, such as the traditional leash and collar method. However, the best approach to training any individual dog is often a combination of leash/collar training and reward training.
In addition, a training method that works perfectly for one dog may be totally inappropriate for another, and vice versa. Some dogs respond wonderfully to reward training and not at all to leash and collar training, while others respond to leash/collar training and are not at all motivated by reward training. Most dogs fall somewhere in the middle of these two extremes.
Clicker training is one of the most popular forms of reward training these days. While clicker training is not the answer for every dog, it can be a remarkably effective method of training many dogs. In clicker training, the dog is taught to associate a clicking sound with a reward, like a treat. The trainer clicks the clicker when the dog does something good, followed immediately by a treat. Eventually, the dog learns to respond to the clicker alone.
Most reward training uses some sort of food reward, or a reward that is associated with getting food. In most cases, complex behaviors can only be taught using this kind of positive reinforcement, and you will find that the people who train dogs for movies and television use reward training almost exclusively.
Reward training is used in all forms of dog training, including police work and military applications. Most scent detection, tracking and police dogs are trained using some form of reward training. Reward training is also a very effective way to teach many basic obedience commands.
Reward training often incorporates the use of a lure in order to get the dog into the position desired by the trainer. The lure is used to get the dog to perform the desired behavior on his or her own and of his or her own free will.
It makes a great deal of sense to get the dog to perform the desired behavior without any physical intervention on the part of the handler. Getting the dog to perform a behavior without being touched is important.
After the dog has performed the desired behavior, it is given a reward, also called a positive reinforcement. Treats are often used as reinforcers, but praise, such as “good dog” or a pat on the head, can also be effective rewards.
Making a dog that has been reward trained a reliable dog is important, especially when the dog has an important job, like police work or drug detection, to do. For that reason it is important to get the dog accustomed to working around distractions, and to properly socialize the animal to both people and other animals.
Many dog trainers make the mistake of only training the dog inside the house or back yard, and only when the handler is there. In order to become a reliably trained companion, the dog must be taken outside the confines of its safety zone and introduced to novel situations.
It is also important to teach the dog to pay attention to the handler at all times. Having the attention of the dog means having control of the dog. Reward training is very effective at getting the respect and the attention of the dog when used properly.

If you would like to know when your site was last indexed by Google, you can find out easily by using the Google cache command. By typing “cache:www.logcabinrustics.com” into the Google search engine, I learned that my site was last indexed yesterday. The Google cache also displays the web page at the time of indexing, so you can see the latest version of your page that was indexed by Google.
As some webmasters have learned, the Google cache feature can be particularly handy when a valuable website and its backup have been lost due to computer failures. It may be time-consuming, especially if you have hundreds of pages, but you can actually retrieve the “lost” pages from your site in the form that Google last indexed them. If this doesn’t work, you might also try the Wayback Machine at archive.org.
Forensic experts have also used the Google cache feature to their advantageto retrieve incriminating evidence from the web. This should be an important reminder to all webmasters not to publish sensitive material online. A later decision not to publish some tantalizing tidbit, and the frantic page-pulling that ensues, may not be enough to erase those ill-said words from the Net.
Webmasters are supposed to be able to block Google from caching their site by using the “no cache” tag. However, many don’t even try this for fear of losing favor in the company’s powerful search rankings. Although Google says the “no cache” tags don’t affect web rankings, some webmasters aren’t so sure.

Other helpful search engine operators of particular value to webmasters include:
LINK: The LINK operator, when used in conjunction with your domain name, is supposed to tell you how many links are pointing to your site. The syntax for this command is “link:http://www.thevegetarianexpress.com/. By way of caution, this only shows how many links indexed by Google that are linking to you. A more inclusive option is found at the Marketleap website, where the Link Popularity Tool reports how many links are pointing to your site from other well-traveled search engines as well.
INURL: Google’s INURL operator will restrict your search to one site only. For example, typing “inurl:www.logcabinrustics.com log beds” will bring up the log beds only on the Log Cabin Rustics furniture website. This is a particularly helpful option if you are looking for a specific phrase on one site.
INTITLE: The INTITLE operator is helpful if you are looking for sites with a particular keyword in their title tag. Use this phrase at Google by typing in “intitle:furniture” or whatever other search term you are looking for.
Variations of the above themes include the ALLINURL and ALLINTITLE search operators. These are particularly useful when you are looking for a string of keywords in either a title or site. For example, if you start a query with allinurl:, Google will restrict the results to those with all of the query words in the url. For instance, [allinurl:logcabinrustics.com bunk beds] will return only documents that have both “bunk” and “beds” in the url.

I ingest is intention, the intention of appreciation, gratitude and joy every moment, every day and in every way that I can. When I get out of sync, as we all do, I put an elastic on my wrist; give it a little tweak to remind me to live every moment as mindfully, as joyfully as possible.
Life has taken me on a personal journey fraught with tremendous challenges and also incredible success and satisfaction. I have achieved what was trailblazing success and material wealth in my career; I have been stripped of all material and social security in fleeing an abusive situation with my children, $100 and the clothes on my back. While my personal journey has been one of extreme success as well as extreme peril, I recognize that we all go through bouts of success and despair, perceived material security and loss. We all have different journeys, different challenges and lessons to learn. However we are all sisters and brothers in the journey of life. A journey that gives each one of us crisis and calm, happiness and hardship. Our strength and our hope lie not in our ability to move forward after crisis or defeat, but rather to move forward with our mind, heart and soul in tact, in a positive place.
What is my secret to living life with my glass of personal energy half full? My secret starts with recognizing that everything in life is a choice, a personal decision. We cannot control what happens to us, but we have the ultimate control over what we do with our experiences. No one can control our thoughts, our emotions, the seedbed of our strength. We are the masters of what is most important and most powerful in our life: our consciousness, our intention.
On our path to discovering a life of joy, a life of happiness we always come head to head with the opponent. The opponent is not the not the boss or the job we do not like, it is not a person who did us wrong. The opponent we face is not outside our self. Our greatest opponent lies within us. It is the voice that speaks of fear and desperation. It is the voice that talks about all we cannot do or achieve. It is easy to be seduced by the opponent, by choices that we do not really want to make, by negativity that drains our energy and impedes our true passion, purpose and talent.
How can we beat our internal opponent and reach in and out with more joy, more energy, more enthusiasm for life? How can we get on the JOY TRACK? We must realize that wishing for, yearning for, hoping for or being desperate for happiness or joy does not represent positive intention, but rather speaks loudly to what we lack. When our thoughts come from a place of need, they also come from a place of fear. The energy we transmit attracts more of the same.
No matter what has transpired in your life, you have the power now at this very moment to fight the opponent, to move past a place of need a place of yearning for, wanting, asking, and hoping to a place of personal strength and positive certainty.

Dental Insurance. The NHS in Dental Shambles

It’s truly shambolic say many dentists referring to the recent overhaul of the NHS dental service. The situation has become so bad that dentists are leaving the NHS in droves. Seven out of ten dentists have either quit the NHS or have signed their new NHS contract temporarily and “under dispute”. This means that come July this year they have the right to refuse NHS patients and switch entirely to private practice.
The hullabaloo is all about the new NHS contract which many dentists allege has been rushed out and forced upon them without proper consultation. A survey in the Daily Mail found that almost one third of dentists were still negotiating deals with their health authorities just three days before the deadline. The final rush has led to resentment, anxiety and confusion amongst dentists over what is in effect a complex packages of changes.
As far as the patient is concerned, the new contract greatly simplifies charges. Instead of some 400 different dental charges, there are now just three standard charges. Patients will be charged £15.50 for each check-up, £42.40 for fillings irrespective of the number of fillings and £189 for more complicated work such as crowns and bridges. Each of these charges pay for a complete course of treatment, irrespective of how long it takes and no matter how many teeth have to be treated.
But dentists believe that these three price bands will persuade many patients to delay treatment leading to an explosion of tooth decay. Says Dr Anthony Halperin from the Patients’ Association, “I’m concerned that many patients will wait until they need multiple treatments to try to get value for money. If that does happen, it is likely we will see a significant rise in tooth decay”.
This unprecedented exodus of dentists from the NHS means that up to 16 million patients could be left without state dental care. And there’s no guarantee that if you do decide to go private, you’ll find a dentist who’ll treat you. There are reports that dentists are becoming very choosey about who they’ll treat. It seems possible that some dentists will only accept patients who are well off or who have dental insurance.

The last alternative is a composite health cash plan. Each treatment has a maximum claim value but they tend to be a bit on the mean side. In our view, you’re much better off with a dental insurance policy or a capitalisation scheme.
