Big Pots for Big Hands
September 3rd, 2010
Big Pots for Big Hands One common mistake in No-Limit online poker is to play big pots without holding a big poker online hand. Big pots usually develop because there is multi-way betting pre-flop followed by more multi-way betting post-flop. In these situations, you generally need a big hand to win. Top pair is probably not going to hold up, and even two pairs or trips can get smashed. For instance, you’re holding K-Q in middle position, call the blinds with three limpers behind you plus the big blind in the pot. The flop comes Q-10-6 rainbow and you have hit top pair. The big blind bets, and though you are holding top pair with a good kicker, this is still a risky call with others behind you. A raise or fold is probably the best action to take because you know the Everest players behind tend to be tight and most likely entered the pot with big cards and missed the flop. They do fold, and the big blind hesitates, then calls your raise. The turn is a 2, which can’t have helped your opponent, who checked, so you bet the pot. Now it’s a huge pot but you’re only holding a high pair that can be easily beat. The big blind calls, the river is a blank, and your opponent flips over A-Q, beating your kicker. Building a big pot like this with what is essentially a weak hand is always risky. Big pots are best played with big hands.

Poker Games on TV
June 14th, 2010
Speaking of poker games on TV, one of the most fascinating things you see happen is how some players turn into mile a minute talkers when the camera is focused on their table. I have no idea if these people always talk a lot at the poker table, or if they play it up for the television cameras, but some players are constantly yapping away while they are in a hand, and even when they’re not.
One of the most frequent times this happens is when one poker online player has made a big raise or re-raise and the other is trying to determine if he is bluffing or not. The talkative poker player will sit there and try to start a conversation with the other player, or harangue and insult him to try and get him to give something away. Invariably, this strategy never works. The other player just sits there and looks down with his hands covering his face.
And this leads to the bigger question of whether being an overly talkative player at the table can be used to ones advantage. Some people use this a s a strategy, and believe that being loud and obnoxious and insulting can lead to other players getting unnerved. Maybe this is so, but I am of the belieif that a player should always give out the least amount of information as possible, and if you talk a lot at the table other players may be able to determine patterns, like if you are more boastful when trying to bluff, for example. I think the best strategy is to be quiet, silent, and deadly.
Sky Lanterns in Arduous times
June 10th, 2010
Times of delight, celebration and party all have one article in common, sky lanterns. Truly so. It has undoubtedly become a fashionable party accessory since it makes a dazzling display which is very theatrical and dramatic. Even a solo sky lantern will be a thoughtful mode of observing the departure of a loved one.
Loss is inevitable, young and old both have to handle it at a certain point in their existence. It truly is a fraction of the human condition to have to face that nature of pain combined with distress, just as it is written into our makeup that we must always sense adoration plus hunger. It’s often exceedingly complicated to digest death, and several battle to recognize the finality of it, and it’s out of the ordinary and overwhelming riddle. Individuals too have exceptionally distinctive ways of managing it, few oppose it out, other individuals plunge themselves in their grief, others go through delayed sadness, and discover themselves mourning many years later.
For a post all this looks to be a very gloomy and sad subject nevertheless there is a purpose to it. Nevertheless I would not for a instant suggest that sky lanterns compose decease more bearable, they do still bring different individuals together, plus present them the hole in addition to time to softly wonder about their sorrow.
Sky lanterns denote an emotional release, as a result after a funeral or a memorial service you can pay tribute to a person which has deceased by discharging a sky lantern. As you permit the sky lantern go you are letting go a tiny part of your grief, or a small part of the life you are mourning. In fact the absolving effect is embodied by the sky lantern’s history.
A sky lantern will not stop sorrow immediately, nevertheless it will eventually put forward an opening to accept it head on in addition to start- incredibly gradually and extremely confidently- to come to terms with it, and to-in a really small approach- allow it to depart.

May 26th, 2010
It’s that time again, and the poker online games are booming with new visitors and old hands trying to grab their piece of the pie. That’s right folks, the WSOP is coming back around. It seems like just yesterday that the November nine took place and Joe Cada, the youngest WSOP champion in history, took home the bracelet from the main event. And he’s coming back again this year to defend his title.
Well ladies and gentlemen, it’s back and the sites are on top of their game as well. Nearly every online site out there is ramping up the promotions with satellite games for as low as a dollar, and some as high as 1k, for the players to earn a chance to go to Las Vegas and showcase their poker talents at the World Series of Poker.
So if you’re interested in trying your hand, why not head over to your favorite online poker room, ante up the dough, and get into those poker tournaments. Season’s Givings
February 24th, 2010
Professional poker players are not all about the money. They’re not selfish, egotistical narcissists despite what their table personas may be. In fact, the big winners are generally some of the most generous people you’ll ever meet.
In the spirit of the Holidays, professional online poker player Annie Duke, who finished 2nd in the Celebrity Apprentice, raising about 500,000 dollars for charity, has also started campaigning to raise more funds for a charity that donates to cancer research and patient care.
Phil Hellmuth, in the same spirit of giving, emceed four charity tournaments in November, raising over 250,000 dollars for children in need during the holiday season. Eat your heart out Operation Reach. I say that in jest, Operation Reach is a great organization that helps thousands in need every holiday season by providing much needed financial assistance so that the children of the families can get Christmas presents for the family.
And most recently, a week before the Christmas holiday, Hellmuth and a crew of about 40 other professionals attended a charity tournament in Phoenix that raised well over 500,000 for holdemforheroes.com, a group that supports families of officers killed in the line of duty.
I think it goes without saying, even though at the table the pros can be vicious, cocky, and every other derogatory term you can think of, off the felt, you’ll be hard pressed to find a harder working group of philanthropists. So respect people when you play poker online.
Resist the Urge to Buy Me Chips
February 4th, 2010
I always like a good poker related gift. Give me a WSOP themed shirt, a cool deck of cards, or some poker knickknack and I am happy. The one thing that you should never get me as a gift, however, is a set of chips. I don’t mean to be rude. Every gift should be evaluated on the basis of the thought behind it, not the actual present itself. online poker chips are really the grand exception. The thing about poker online chips is that every set is so different. There are cheap sets that you can buy at any decent store’s discount rack and there are the sets that are works of art in themselves. I like the ones that lie somewhere in the middle. The solid, hard working type of set that will hold up to a long online poker game late into the evening. The problem is that most people don’t know exactly want I want. They will get me something that I would not have chosen for myself. Then I would be forced to trot out a set that I don’t like every time that my so-called friends come over for poker night. Don’t inflict that on your friends. Let them choose the poker chips that they actually want.
Potentiality
December 9th, 2009
If you’ve been playing Texas Hold ‘Em online poker for any period of time, you’ll probably have a decent idea of what a good starting poker online hand is. Your pocket pairs down to 10s if you’re under the gun. Suited Aces down to ATs. And of course you know that hand strength changes as you get position on players and depending on the other online poker player’s actions. But there’s one thing we haven’t covered. Hands that have potential. These potential bearing hands are hands you’d like to see the flop with, but aren’t considered premium hands. Online, these hands are hands that you’d not want to call a raise with, and in position are considered limpable. Hands like suited Aces or KQ suited, and other suited connectors and suited one gappers down to 74 suited. Again, you have to pay attention to the position and the previous action, but these hands have serious potential post flop and if you hit the flop hard, it’s nearly impossible to detect even from the most astute player. Let’s say you’re holding 74 suited and 56x of your suit comes up. You have a greatly disguised super drawing hand and an over to boot if the X is below a 7. You can treat your smaller pocket pairs the same way and play them for set value. And the best time to do this is when you get an AXY flop, the Y being your set card. Anyone playing an ace will be playing this pretty aggressively, and if you choose to smooth call or reraise, you’re going to be putting some doubt and confusion in his mind. To wrap it up, what you’ll be wanting to do is look for opportunities where you can limp these hands and hit the flop hard with them the same time someone else thinks they hit the flop hard. And trust me, when you do, you’ll be getting a pay off in the form of their chips in your pile.
Anette Obrestad: Ushering in a New Wave of Poker History
November 6th, 2009
The history of online poker is marked by key moments when the future of the poker game is decided. The WSOP in 2007 was one of those moments when Anette Obrestad won a bracelet in the main event. Her win signified many things for the history of online poker, notably that poker now belonged to a younger generation. Obrestad was only 18 when she won the WSOP, and the youngest winner in WSOP history. Her win signified that the entire style of poker had changed. She had learned how to play poker by practicing using online games. Her style was aggressive, often even characterized as fearless by her opponents. She did not fear the poker table with its old school connotations of an all male game. She was not one of the old guard that had learned in a smoky backroom or a kitchen table. She had learned in the modern poker culture that emphasizes strategy and skill as teachable attributes. She was raised on online strategy articles much like this one. Her win was a historical moment because it showed that the poker world was passing into new hands. She stood on the threshold of the poker past and showed where its future lied.
